Policymakers have proposed requiring financial institutions to report to the IRS how much money goes into and out of accounts holding more than $600. This provision would dramatically increase the regulatory burden for financial institutions, violate consumers’ privacy and trigger significant data security concerns.

  • Creating a source of credit at a fair and reasonable rate of interest;
  • Encouraging habits of thrift among its members; and
  • Providing an opportunity for its members to use and control their own money on a democratic basis in order to improve their economic and social condition.
