How does Overdraft Privilege work?
Overdraft Privilege may cover certain transactions when you don’t have enough available funds in your checking account. It allows you to pay a $30 overdraft fee* per item to cover a check or transaction up to $700 beyond your available balance (up to your overdraft limit) for your eligible accounts. We won’t charge overdraft fees for transactions less than $5.
Here’s what else you’ll need to know:
- New checking accounts are automatically enrolled in Overdraft Privilege once eligibility criteria’s met after 30 days.
- ATM and everyday card transactions, checks, ACH automatic bill payments, recurring debit card payments and all other transactions made using your checking account number can be paid automatically. This extended coverage option requires you to opt-in separately.
- As long as no additional checks or transactions clear, your account may remain overdrawn for up to 30 days with no additional fees or interest. Accounts overdrawn longer than 45 days will be closed. We may decline to pay transactions if your account isn’t in good standing, you’re not making regular deposits or you have too many overdrafts.
*The Overdraft Privilege service fee is $30 per overdraft, with a maxim of one fee per day. An overdraft fee may be imposed for covering overdrafts made by various transactions- such as ATM withdrawals, everyday card transactions, checks, ACH automatic bill payments, recurring debit card payments, and any covered automatically, and you will need to repay the fees within 30 days of the account going negative. If your account is overdrawn for longer than 45 days, it will be closed. However, please note that the decision to pay the overdraft is at our discretion, and we may choose not to pay if your account is not in good standing, you are not making regular deposits, or if you have too many overdrafts.
-
What are the eligibility requirements for Overdraft Privilege?
Your account must be in good standing, meaning the:
- Primary account owner is at least 18 years old
- Account has been open for at least 30 days
- Account’s deposits total at least $300 within each 30-day period
- Account shows consistent deposit activity
- Account owner is current on all loan obligations
- Account isn’t overdrawn for more than 30 consecutive days
- Account doesn’t have any restrictive hold codes
-
Are overdraft advances charged interest?
No. Because no interest is charged, Overdraft Privilege can be a lower-cost alternative to payday loans.
-
How do your overdraft privilege fees compare to banks?
Credit unions typically charge less than the average big bank for overdraft services.
*The Overdraft Privilege service fee is $30 per overdraft, with a maximum of one fee per day. An overdraft fee may be imposed for covering overdrafts made by various transactions—such as ATM withdrawals, everyday card transactions, checks, ACH automatic bill payments, recurring debit card payments, and any other transactions using your checking account number. These overdrafts will be covered automatically, and you will need to repay the fees within 30 days of the account going negative. If your account is overdrawn for longer than 45 days, it will be closed. However, please note that the decision to pay the overdrafts is at our discretion, and we may choose not to pay if your account is not in good standing, you are not making regular deposits, or if you have too many overdrafts.
-
If my account is overdrawn, is there a daily fee?
No. Dupaco’s overdraft and non-sufficient funds (NSF) fees are charged per item, not per day. As long as no additional items clear, your account may remain overdrawn for up to 30 days with no additional fees or interest.
-
Can I still withdraw money if my account’s negative?
If your checking account’s eligible for Overdraft Privilege and within your limit, you may still be able to withdraw funds. You must bring the account back to a positive balance within 30 days, or the account will be considered delinquent. You can’t withdraw funds from delinquent accounts.
-
What happens if I don’t have overdraft coverage or enough in savings to transfer?
We’ll return the transaction to the merchant or payee as “unpaid due to insufficient funds.” We won’t charge you any fees, but your merchant may.
-
What are your overdraft fees?
You can view current overdraft and NSF fees in our Schedule of Fees here.
