Polling from the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE) shows a deeply strained financial landscape. According to NEFE, 88% of U.S. adults report feeling some level of financial stress entering 2026, one of the highest levels recorded in the organization’s decade of tracking financial well‑being. Additionally, 77% of Americans experienced a financial setback in 2025, including unexpected expenses, falling behind on bills and income disruptions.
