Say hello to a good buy
Dupaco Community Credit Union and garage sales go hand in hand.
As a credit union, Dupaco is all about thrift: teaching people how to save more and spend less. A garage sale is just that – an opportunity for shoppers to save money by loading up on gently used items they need at budget-friendly prices, and for garage sale hosts to make money from items they no longer want or use.
That’s why Dupaco has been sponsoring Community-Wide Garage Sales in the tri-state area for more than 20 years.
“As a community credit union, we look for meaningful ways to engage and support the communities we serve,” said Jennifer Hanniford, Dupaco’s assistant vice president of interactive marketing. “The Community-Wide Garage Sale encourages neighborly interaction, cooperation and offers financial benefits to participants – a perfect fit for Dupaco.”
Dupaco’s annual Community-Wide Garage Sale in Dubuque and Manchester, Iowa, were April 26. Dupaco’s final garage sale event of the season will be on Saturday, May 10, in Platteville, Wis.
“It’s a pretty great feeling when you can buy dozens of nearly new items at a cost equal to purchasing just one of those items at a retail store. For me, it’s like winning the lottery,” Hanniford said. “My all-time favorite garage sale find was a children’s desk that I paid $10 for. The retail price was $145!”
City-wide garage sales are not uncommon, but Dupaco and the other co-sponsors’ commitment to making this an entirely free event is uncommon:
