Newspaper: Red Cross, Dupaco, KWWL honor Tri-State Heroes

Today's Dubuque Telegraph Herald tells the story of several Tri-State area heroes.

The American Red Cross of the Tri-States, along with Dupaco Community Credit Union and KWWL, awarded nine local people with Heroes of the Tri-States honors at a breakfast celebration Tuesday. Winners were selected by an independent selection committee.

Among the heroes honored were Amy Hawkins (pictured), Lurleen and Randy Ambrosy, who came to the aid of Dr. Roger Nemmers last winter by acting quickly and performing CPR, saving his life.

"Amy, Lurleen and Randy were driving home from the Dubuque Community Y earlier this year when they came across Nemmers, who had collapsed while blowing snow off his driveway," reports the Telegraph Herald.

Randy quickly dialed 911 while Lurleen and Amy performed CPR. Thanks to their swift actions, Nemmers resumed breathing and was conscious by the time emergency personnel arrived. Nemmers refers to the trio as his "snow angels," for saving his life that day.
