Bright Track is a smarter way to look at your credit score

Along with your credit score, Bright Track provides you information on why your credit score falls where it does, and provides you practical ways to improve upon it. Bright Track assigns a letter grade to each of the five components that make up your score, and action items to help you understand what you should do to improve or maintain your score.

Why does this matter? It matters because your credit score can be used by:

  • lenders (in figuring out how much interest you'll pay)
  • insurance providers (to determine your rate)
  • landlords (to assess your ability to pay your rent)
  • employers (to aid in determining personal integrity and responsibility)

As you can see, your credit score affects several aspects of your life. The lower your score, the higher the likelihood you'll pay more for credit and other services, or be denied credit until your score improves.

Here is an EXAMPLE of the credit score information a member may see through Bright Track:

Bright track is showing that Trans Union is reporting a delinquent Citi Cards account. I did not recognize the amount. Bright Track does not show the full account number in the notice. I called Citi Cards and they do not show any account in my name for that amount. I called Trans Union and they do not show any account with that amount so nothing to dispute. Both sides agree so now what? How do I get more information from Bright Track?

Hi Galen, If you see lines of credit that aren’t yours, or have balances that are wrong, there is a link within BrightTrack to file a dispute with TransUnion, the credit bureau that provides Bright Track its credit information.

I've tried enabling cookies on my computer, but the Dupaco page still says I need to enable cookies in order to see my credit score. I use Edge because Internet Explorer keeps crashing. Help!

I can not find any graphic to click when I get into my account that would direct me to a free credit report.

Hi Paula, once you log into Shine Online Banking, you should see a graphic on the right sidebar that says "In your zip code, the average credit score is..." This is the graphic to select in order to access Bright Track.

Hi Jim, I have reached out to our technology department to see about troubleshooting this issue. Sometimes, the graphic can be picky, and you have to click on the "See Details" to get it to open.

I have checked my credit score from all three credit bureaus and you are so wrong. Why are you so low?

Hi Coralie, There are three major credit reporting bureaus—Equifax, Experian and Transunion—and two scoring models— FICO and VantageScore—that determine consumers’ credit scores. Each model may weigh credit factors differently, therefore no scoring model is identical. Bright Track credit scoring uses Vantage Score, while Dupaco uses FICO to assist in making lending decisions.

Is there a limit to how many times you can look at your updated credit score?K

Hi Shaina, there is no limit on the number of times you can look at your score on Bright Track because it is considered a “soft inquiry”. However, Bright Track credit scores are only updated every 30 days, so within 30 days of the last update, you will not see a change.

My husband and I have a joint checking/savings account. We were able to access his free credit score through Bright track but I have not been able to access mine. Is there a way where we both can benefit from this feature? If so, how would we go about accessing my credit score? Thank you.

Hi Sherry, in the case of joint accounts, when you sign up for Bright Track right from Shine Online Banking, it will default only to the primary account holder. For the secondary account holder to benefit from this service, please go to www.savvymoney.com/brighttrack and sign up. It will also be free, like with Shine.

Which one?

Curious which credit bureau are you using, and what version of it? This matters because if it is a less relevant scoring model (like the one credit karma uses) then the score is basically useless when compared to what the prospective lender is using.

Bright Track receives data from TransUnion, and uses the VantageScore credit scoring model. Dupaco does not use this scoring model to make lending decisions - in fact, Dupaco uses a different scoring methods for different types of loans. Despite the differences between models, Bright Track is still relevant to members because over time, you can monitor your score consistently using this one model, to see whether your score is trending up, down, or staying constant. That trend is a better indicator of your overall credit health moreso than the score itself. And, for a deeper dive into your credit and how to improve or hold your score, Dupaco offers free Credit History Lessons, if you are interested. Thanks!
