Impacted by COVID-19? This grant might help you

Update: April 3, 2020, at 2:40 p.m. CT

Experiencing financial hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Every bit of financial assistance can help during this time.

And as a credit union member, you can apply for a $500 grant through the Iowa Credit Union Foundation. You have until 5 p.m. CT Friday, April 3, 2020, to apply. The Emergency Relief Fund grants are available to both individuals and small business owners. And because it’s a grant, the money does not need to be repaid.

“In partnership with our credit union community, this fund was established to provide support to Iowans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” the foundation said.

Dupaco and other credit unions have provided financial support to this fund, highlighting the cooperative difference of people helping people.

Here’s how the grant program works:

Who’s eligible for the grant

The one-time, $500 grants are available for individuals and small business owners who are experiencing financial hardship due to the pandemic.

If you’re applying as an individual, you must:

  • Have experienced economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Be a current member of an Iowa credit union, regardless of where you live. Iowa credit union employees are also eligible.

If you’re applying as a small business owner, you must:

  • Operate and own a small business that employs less than five people with an annual operating revenue below $250,000.
  • Have experienced economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Be a current member of an Iowa credit union.

The grants are limited to one per household, regardless of whether it’s for a small business or individual.

How to apply

The application became available April 1 on the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s website. The grants are available on a first-come, first-serve basis and are subject to availability.

If you have issues accessing the application, try using Chrome and check your firewall settings. If you still can’t access it, you can download a printable version:

Due to the large number of grant requests, the foundation will only contact grant recipients.

If you’re awarded a grant, you’ll receive an email from the foundation within one to two weeks of submitting your application. And your funds will be deposited into your Dupaco account.
