Protect yourself against fraud: Don’t say Yes
In light of recent news articles about a phone scam in which an unknown caller asks a question that prompts an answer of “yes”, Dupaco wants to remind our members, and even non-members, to be cautious about answering phone numbers that you’re not familiar with.
The scam consists of getting a phone call from an unfamiliar number, and being asked a simple question such as “Can you hear me?” or “Did you vote in the last election?”, prompting the recipient to answer “yes”. This answer is then recorded and used by the scammer to authorize charges on a phone, utility or credit card bill.
If you experience a phone call like this, exercise extreme caution in your answer to any questions, or promptly hang up the phone. If you think you may have been affected by this scam, be sure to closely monitor your accounts on Shine Online or Mobile Banking, and set up eNotifiers to be instantly notified of transactions on your accounts. Check out our Protection Connection for more information on staying protected against fraud.
As always, if you notice suspicious account activity or experience security-related events, or if you believe you are the victim of fraud or identity theft, please contact Dupaco immediately at (563) 557-7600 / 800-373-7600.
