Posted:May 14, 2012
Details: Bank On Dubuque is offering a series of classes to help participants learn financial management skills. The series is called "Your Money, Your Future" and classes are scheduled for June 14, 21, and 27.

The program will meet for an hour and a half each week for three weeks from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Prescott Resource Community Center, 1151 White Street, in Dubuque. The cost to participate is $15 for all 3 classes and scholarships are available. The fees for service will be used to offset direct expenses and to support the Extension Families Program.

Topics covered are listed below:

Making Ends Meet Thursday, June 14: Topics covered will include spending plans, goal setting, tracking spending

ABC's of Banking Thursday, June 21: Topics covered will include types of financial institutions, selecting financial institutions to meet your needs, types of services, managing accounts

Take Charge of Credit Wednesday, June 27:  Topics covered will include what is credit, forms of credit, building credit history & understanding credit reports, tips for using credit wisely, solutions to credit issues

Bank On Dubuque was formed in 2010 by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, Dupaco and several Dubuque-area financial institutions and community social organizations.

The purpose of the program is to improve the financial futures of unbanked families by offering low- and moderate-income residents free or low-cost checking accounts and access to financial education. Access to a credit union or bank account can help residents avoid costly alternative financial services (check cashers, payday lenders, pawn shops and rent-to-own stores) and enable families to build and protect their assets.
